nombre

Is the name you have now the same name that's on your birth certificate? If not, what's changed?
Other than changing my last name from my maiden to my husband's, no. I kept my middle name instead of using my maiden as the middle name, like some folks do.
If you could change your name (first or middle, no last names for safety please!), what would it be?
Probably not, although I've always had this wish that all mankind would smarten up and figure out how to say and spell it. Maresi Jacoba. DUH! Mah-ree-see Jack-oh-ba!
Why were you named what you were? (Is there a story behind it? Who specifically was responsible for naming you?)
My parents named me Maresi after a foreign exchange student my mother's family hosted during her college years (right, mom?) named Maria Theresa and nicknamed Maresi, which is apparently a common name in Austria. Jacoba was my father's mother's name, who died when Dad was 14 of uterine cancer. She was Dutch - her name was so cool! Jacoba Johanna Ferdinanda Mueller... but for some reason they called her Jean!
Are there any names you really hate or love? What are they and why?
Well, of course I love the names Henry and Carmine and Timon. And since those are all boys, I like these girl names: Katherine, Avery, Julianne, and Helen. I'd rather people not use "creative" spellings for nice, normal names... like Aimee or Matisen or Arrin. Or made up names like the 89th most popular name of 2006 for girls, Neveah (that's Heaven spelled backwards. Yeah.). But since I'm a gal named Maresi, married to a man named Timon, for Pete's sake, for the love of Mike, I guess I don't really have a leg to stand on. My worst students ever have been named Connor, Chase, Ryder, and Blake, I don't think I could ever name a kid any of those.

[Apparently when you do these things you are supposed to tag a fellow blogger to answer these questions on their blog. I won't call any of you ladies out by name, but I hope you will post about this someday... just for fun.]

1. Last name changed at marriage - middle name for legal purposes is maiden name but think of myself as Patricia Helen. 2. I don't think of changing my name now. When I was in 7th or 8th grade, I thought that maybe I should be Tricia - am I ever thankful that that phase passed. 3. Girls born on St. Patrick's Day should be named Patricia by their parents. It's a good day for a birthday - everyone celebrates with parades and parties. 4. Wacky names - Axelrod, naming ALL of your children George, and others like Apple don't really appeal to me although I can't say that I HATE them. I like names that flow from first name through middle to last and sound a bit musical. :):)

I never knew that tidbit of info about Dads mother. Thanks for sharing it with us.

p.s., as I am typing this, Melody walks over to me, looks at the computer screen and (recognizing the website) asks to "see Henry singing Happy Birthday to Grandma!"
