brownout

I'm back, after a Sabbath's rest. I just didn't get around to taking any good photos that were purple. So, I'm skipping it and moving on to my last color, brown. Enjoy.

it ain't easy bein' green

green has to hold stuff up...

green has to be a tree...

green has to shade 2 year old eyes...

and, green has to keep a kid dry,
and look super cute while doing it.

blog, interrupted

I'm taking a second during color week to change colors - today was to be green. But, you'll see pink instead. I hope I don't make some male readers uncomfortable with the info I'm about to share - but if you are a man and you have even one woman in your life who you care about, I recommend you get over your heebie-jeebies and read on.

I had a mammogram today. I just started seeing a new primary care doctor who, upon hearing my family and personal breast history, recommended I have a mammogram. I have to say, I'd heard so many stories of pain and dread that I was quite a bit concerned about this test. Not many ladies my age (29, despite what my young husband would have you believe, I am NOT yet 30) have mammograms, but I dutifully obeyed doctor's orders. It was NOT painful - I don't dispute that some women have pain during the test, but I barely felt uncomfortable. I even asked the technician, "That's it?" Whether it's my size (on the larger side - she had to use "the big plate") or shape or whatever, I don't know. But it really wasn't that bad. I can only assume that the pain of the mammogram is far, far less than the pain of discovering too late that you have advanced breast cancer. So if your doctor tells you to get one, get one. If you're a man, make sure all the ladies you care about get theirs, too.

So, for breast cancer awareness, here's some pink stuff:

This is an excellent book called Reconstructing Natalie about a young woman who is diagnosed with breast cancer. It was one of those pick-up-a-book-that-looks-cute-at-the-library finds, and I was so happy that this book found me. AND, for the third time at our library, the book that I just picked up happens to be written by a Christian woman and is endorsed by Women of Faith. What a pleasant surprise!

Thanks for understanding this out-of-the-ROY G BIV post, meaning that color week will end up being color 8 days instead. Stay tuned tomorrow for green! Go get your b**bies squished!

y-e-l-l-o...W!

Once upon a time, I was a preschool teacher. We had songs to teach the color word spellings, and yellow went a little something like this... Yellow, yellow, he's a funny fellow. Yellow, yellow, he likes to eat my jello. Yellow, yellow, he's a funny fellow... Y - E - L - L - O... W!!! Those were the good times.

Anyhow, without further ado...

this is one crazy neck-tie
